Book sale supports Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival

Seward, NE (09/01/2017) — The Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival will host a pre-event book sale in room 003 on the lower level of the Thom Leadership Education Center (TLEC) at Concordia University, Nebraska, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017.

The sale will include books by Plum Creek authors, illustrators and literacy experts featured at the 22nd annual festival Sept. 28-30, 2017, at Concordia University, Nebraska. Books purchased may be left for the authors to sign, then picked up after the festival.

The book sale, run by volunteers, is one of the main sources of funding for the festival.

"The pre-sale provides opportunities for families and book lovers throughout the community to pre-order books for themselves or for other special ones in their life," said Dylan Teut, festival director. "Many come and do their Christmas shopping with us. Books are purchased and left with us, and the authors sign them while they're here. Shortly after the festival, books are available for pick up. An autographed book is a unique and timeless treasure."

This year's festival will feature authors and illustrators who spend hours with children at schools and on campus Sept. 29. Authors and illustrators at the event are Kwame Alexander, Lauren Castillo, Henry Cole, Matthew Cordell, Rebecca Kai Dotlich, Sharon Draper, Tad Hills, Jennifer Holm, Matthew Holm, Brandon Mull, Christian Robinson, Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Phil Stead and Melissa Sweet.

The festival also includes an adult conference on Sept. 30 with authors, illustrators and several literacy experts speaking on a variety of topics. The conference features a luncheon and keynote address by Patricia MacLauchlan, who has written hundreds of books for young readers and is a Newberry award winner. Space for the luncheon is limited and must be reserved through the online registration form prior to the event.
