Dr. Brian Albright to publish second edition of Mathematics textbook

Seward, Neb. (02/08/2018) — Dr. Brian Albright will publish a second edition of his textbook, "Mathematical Modeling with Excel."

Dr. Albright has served as a professor of mathematics at Concordia University, Nebraska, since 2004, teaching calculus, statistics, mathematic modeling, and other mathematics classes. He regularly grades the AP Calculus exams for the Educational Testing Services.

Albright's first textbook "Mathematical Modeling with Excel" was published in 2009. It explains the mathematical modeling process of applying mathematics to real-world problems using the excel platform.

"When I started teaching, I just couldn't find a book that I liked, so I wrote my own stuff down until I had enough to compile it into a book," said Dr. Brian Albright. "The book was written over the span of several years, but since that time I've still been adding and making changes to the first edition."

The contract for the second edition is through CRC Press. Albright plans to write and revise his book over the summer with his deadline in August 2019. In the meantime, Albright provides his students with a PDF version of his original manuscript which includes all of Albright's edits.

"The writing process really makes you think about what you're saying. If you say something wrong in a lecture, odds are no one will remember it, but in a book, people are going to be reading this for years to come."

Albright is a graduate of the Emporia State University where he received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and secondary education. He went on to earn his Doctor of Systems Science and Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to his appointment at Concordia, Albright was a teaching assistant at Kansas State University and Washington University in St. Louis. He also served as a transportation analyst with the United States Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
