Concordia seniors present capstone of college artwork at Marxhausen Gallery of Art

2017 Mar 15

Hannah Willison is one of the five seniors who will showcase their work in the Bachelor of Fine Art Senior Thesis exhibition at Concordia University, Nebraska, Mar. 19-26 in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art.

An opening reception will be in the gallery from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 26. A gallery talk with the featured students will take place at 2 p.m.

This show serves as the capstone experience for students earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design, art education or studio art. The students' goal for the show is to create a series of new, relating works that present their highest achievement in upper-level studio art courses. Students are required to take this course in order to understand the basic aspects of installing a group exhibition and experience taking the initiative and responsibility involved in doing so.

"Studying art has been a unique college experience," said Concordia senior, Jordyn Sturms. "The art department creates a community through the hours spent together: working beside one another, critiquing one another, challenging one another and teaching one another. I'm excited to let others see a glimpse of what this bond has produced and I am honored to be showing alongside such a neat group of ladies who have become much more than just peers."

"We have all been working really hard to make this show great and I am so excited to see how it all comes together," added graphic design student, Taylor Workman. "The work I am creating for this show is an illustrated children's book. The stories included in the book are Aesop's Fables and the medium I am using is cut paper and ink."

The exhibit is open to the public and free of charge. The Marxhausen Gallery is located in Jesse Hall on the Concordia campus and is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday.
