Karl Rovey participates in Concordia band concert

The Symphonic Band and Concert Band at Concordia University, Nebraska performed classic band marches and ballads at their first concert of the year on Friday, Oct. 10, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.

Karl Rovey, senior, Springfield, Mo., trumpet

The Symphonic Band's repertoire included arrangements of songs from the musical "The Music Man" as well as selections from "Ballet Parisian" by Jacques Offenbach. The Concert Band's songs for the evening included two marches by Karl King: "Gallant Marines" and "Torch of Liberty."

The Concert Band includes Concordia students and faculty, as well as residents from Seward and surrounding areas. The band performs both sacred and traditional band repertoire. The Symphonic Band was formed in 1906 and is the oldest continuing musical organization at Concordia. The ensemble performs a variety of sacred, multicultural and contemporary literature in addition to the traditional concert band repertoire.
