Karl Rovey will embark on Spring Break Tour with Concordia University, Nebraska's Wind Ensemble

Karl is part of the select 43-member Wind Ensemble that will be touring March 2-12, 2017, with stops in Missouri, Illinois and Florida.

The University Wind Ensemble is chosen from the 85-member University Symphonic Band which was formed in 1906 and is the oldest continuing musical organization at Concordia.

"The Wind Ensemble has gained a reputation for engaging and entertaining performances of outstanding sacred and traditional concert band literature," said Andrew Schultz, director of the ensemble. "Throughout the long history of the band program at Concordia, the concert bands have toured extensively throughout the United States. The primary goal of these tours is to serve as an ambassador for Concordia University, Nebraska by sharing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ through music.

The ensemble will perform concerts at churches and high schools in six cities on their 10-day tour. Concert sites include Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Oviedo, Florida, Grace Lutheran Church, Winter Haven, Florida, Trinity Lutheran Church, Rockledge, Florida, Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School, Centralia, Illinois, Trinity Lutheran Church, Centralia, Illinois and Zion Harvester, St. Charles, Missouri.

This year's tour program includes "Rejouissance" by James Curnow, a stirring setting of "Amazing Grace" by Frank Ticheli, Thomas Knox's setting of "God of Our Fathers" that was written for the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan and John Philip Sousa's "Starts and Stripes Forever." The program will also include music by David Holsinger, Leroy Anderson, Robert W. Smith and Jay Bocook.

All of the concerts are free and open to the public.
