Melonie Kotschwar places at Kansas forensics meet

Two members of Concordia University, Nebraska's forensics team, including Melonie Kotschwar of Seward, Neb., earned high places at the Dragon/Loper Rodeo Swing meet in Hutchinson, Kansas, on Nov. 1.

Emily Kollbaum and Melonie Kotschwar placed third in Duo, and Kollbaum placed fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation. "Emily Kollbaum and Melonie Kotschwar are just two examples of how hard Concordia's 10 forensics students are working in order to earn their way to American Forensic Association Nationals," said Joy Johnson, director of forensics.

Kollbaum and Kotschwar performed "Poof!" by Lynn Nottage to earn third in Duo. The short play details the life of two women after surviving domestic violence.

Kollbaum's fifth place performance in Program of Oral Interpretation used six different authors and genres of literature in a 10-minute piece to show the various ways people deal with grief. Some of the pieces she incorporated include "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling and "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold.
