Nick Harding performs with Concert Band and Brass Ensemble at Nov. 18 concert

2014 Nov 7

The Concordia Concert Band and Concordia Brass Ensemble will perform a joint concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska.

Participants include:

Nick Harding, a senior from Yerington, Nev., in Brass Ensemble

"As a group, we enjoy the camaraderie that comes with the unique experience of making music together in a small ensemble setting," said Brass Ensemble Director Dr. Wendy Schultz.

The Brass Ensemble will perform a wide variety of works including traditional pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Dieterich Buxtehude as well as a 20th century ragtime piece by Scott Joplin.

The Concert Band will perform a Karl King march called "Torch of Liberty" and a Jack Stamp ballad called "Held Still in Quick of Grace," as well as the songs "The King Across the Water" by Bruce Fraser and "Phasing Thunder" by Brian Balmages.

The Brass Ensemble is a small group of brass players. They perform at chapel, festival services of the university and local churches, and other on- and off-campus events. A broad range of repertoire is performed, from Renaissance to the 20th century with special emphasis on music suitable for worship services.

The Concert Band includes Concordia students and faculty, as well as residents from the Seward community performing concert band music drawn from sacred and traditional band repertoire.
