Concordia University, Nebraska hosts 74th annual Gathering of the Talents

Seward, Neb. (04/13/2018) — More than 250 elementary and middle school students showcased their talents at Concordia University, Nebraska's annual Gathering of the Talents on April 7.

Participants and their families traveled from 25 Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod schools and churches across Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas to attend the event.

"We are truly blessed to have so many participants come to campus and showcase their talents to glorify God," said University events manager, Briianne Imig. "It is amazing to see all the incredible talents God has blessed these children with."

Students in grades 4-8 participated in over 300 events in five divisions including visual art, creative writing, drama, dance and musical performance. Each division was managed by a faculty representative and evaluated by Concordia students and faculty. All submissions and performances were evaluated and given both verbal and written feedback. An Outstanding Talent Award was presented to a few students in each division who displayed outstanding talent.

Each year, the Gathering of Talents festival is run by the University events manager and Concordia students, who manage the five divisions of talent.

"We are striving to make Gathering of the Talents more about education, learning, experience and growth for each and every participant, and less focused on the competition aspect," said Imig. "Each student will gain valuable skills to develop their talent further. By giving each student the opportunity to perform, they will engage with Concordia University faculty, staff, and students and receive helpful comments to further their experience and expand their areas of interest."
