Trinity Academy starts the Trinity Academy Scholasticus Choir
Seward, NE (01/28/2026) — Trinity Academy is a classical Lutheran high school located on the campus of Concordia University, Nebraska. In the fall of 2025, Trinity started the Trinity Academy Scholasticus Choir, giving its students the chance to be involved in music.
The choir is under the direction of Concordia Music Department Chair Dr. Kurt von Kampen. Von Kampen reached out to Concordia Associate Professor of English and Trinity Academy Board President Dr. Gabe Haley at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year to see if there would be interest in forming a choir at Trinity. Haley and the other Academy leadership were immediately enthusiastic about the idea and formed the group with the caveat that every student in the high school was required to participate.
The choir performs once a semester at the end of the academic term. In December, the choir had an Advent/Christmas themed hymn sing and performed two choral anthems they had prepared. This semester, the choir plans to prepare a few more pieces for another hymn sing based on Lent and Easter music. As the program grows, von Kampen plans for the choir to sing periodically at Concordia chapel services and St. John Lutheran Church services.
The choir's main focus will be on classical sacred music, which aligns well with the classical, Lutheran identity of the school.
"The students from Trinity Academy have been a joy to work with," von Kampen said. "They come to each rehearsal with great enthusiasm, even though many have had limited choral experience. They are willing to try, and that is more than half the battle. I look forward to working with them in the future as the school grows."
Concordia University, Nebraska's institutes aim to serve the church at large through service, outreach and educational efforts that align with the university's mission. The institutes serve groups such as students, church workers, teachers and community members.
