Concordia Nebraska presents annual Ag Summit for high school students

Seward, NE (12/08/2023) — Concordia University, Nebraska conducted its fifth annual Ag Summit for high school students on November 15. The event was themed "Agriculture 2030: Feeding and Fueling the World". 65 students attended representing Aurora High School, Heartland Community Schools, Lutheran High Northeast, Heartland Lutheran High School, Schuyler Community Schools and York Public Schools.

"Students participated in hands-on workshops with the topics of genetics, agribusiness and business pitches, animal health and vaccinations and plant science," explained Dr. Kimberly Clark, Concordia Nebraska assistant professor of agriculture science. "Students also enjoyed many opportunities for networking and fellowship and were able to complete an escape room on Concordia's campus.

Summit guest speakers included representatives from Merck Animal Health, Farmers Cooperative and the university. In addition, Central Valley Ag brought its ag sprayer application simulator to the campus to allow students the opportunity to explore driving an agricultural chemical sprayer.

The event also included a business pitch competition where six groups pitched their businesses to Concordia Nebraska professor of accounting Todd Johnson and Concordia Nebraska professor of agricultural science Dr. Dennis Brink. Three teams were selected to participate in the C3 Pitch finals competition, which took place on campus on Friday, December 8.
