Concordia Nebraska presents Power of Story literacy event

Seward, NE (10/07/2025) — On September 25, Concordia University, Nebraska presented The Power of Story: Strengthening Faith Through Literacy. The event featured special guests Peggy Kuethe and Lisa Clark from Concordia Publishing House and included Kindergarten through fifth grade students, faculty and staff from select Seward-area Christian schools.

"Since the beginning, God's people have used stories to teach, guide, inspire, encourage and nurture the faith of the next generation," said Concordia Nebraska President and Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Director of Academic Ventures Dr. Bernard Bull. "I'm delighted to have our partners in the Gospel at Concordia Publishing House at this special event, continuing this critical and age-old legacy of Christ-centered storytelling."

The Power of Story: Strengthening Faith Through Literacy was presented by the Concordia University, Nebraska Institute for Literacy.

"It is such a joy to see students engage with stories from Concordia Publishing House that point them to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," added Concordia Nebraska Director of University Institutes Deb Jurchen. "The event not only nurtured a love of reading and the creative process, but also deepened connections of faith and community that we pray will continue to grow long after the day is over."

The Institute for Literacy resources the church by exploring the intersection of Christian faith and life through the written word, fostering a lifelong joy of learning through reading.

Concordia University, Nebraska's institutes provide outreach, service and educational efforts that align and advance the University's mission and vision by engaging audiences beyond the campus while serving as a resource to the church at large.
