Concordia Nebraska professor directs "The Mountaintop" at Lincoln Community Playhouse

Seward, NE (02/07/2023) — Concordia University, Nebraska professor of communication and theater arts Bryan Moore recently directed the play "The Mountaintop," which was shown at the Lincoln Community Playhouse. Performances took place January 27-29 and February 3-5, 2023.

"It's been a great experience working with a different theatre company and group of talented and passionate artists. We enjoyed putting this show together, and it was exciting to share this powerful story," said Moore.

Taking place on April 3, 1968, "The Mountaintop" is a gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis while a storm rages outside. When Camae, a maid, delivers room service, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.

"It's intriguing to explore the life of a famous person beyond the 'public image,' and Dr. King is no exception. Even through this fictional event, we are reminded that famous people are flawed human beings like the rest of us, with the same needs, wishes, challenges, and fears as we have," added Moore. "Making this connection with a person as great as MLK can help us acknowledge-and can even inspire us-that any of us can potentially do great things."
