Concordia Nebraska's Plum Creek Literacy Festival to host-pre event book sale September 20

by Amy Crawford

Seward, NE (09/13/2023) — The Plum Creek Literacy Festival will host a pre-event book sale in Room 003 on the lower level of the Thom Leadership Education Center at Concordia University, Nebraska on Wednesday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The award-winning Plum Creek Literacy Festival, founded in 1996, seeks to encourage a love of reading, writing and books by bringing nationally renowned authors and illustrators to Nebraska who host interactive workshops and keynotes for school children and adults.

The pre-sale will include books by authors, illustrators and literacy experts featured at the 27th annual festival, which will take place October 6-7 on the Concordia Nebraska campus. Books purchased during the pre-sale may be left for the authors to sign, and may be picked up following the festival. The sale, run by volunteers, is one of the main sources of funding for the festival. "We invite everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to build your home, classroom, and local libraries. There are board books, picture books, chapter books and novels available for purchase," said Dr. Dylan Teut, director of the Plum Creek Literacy Festival. "Signed books are treasures and keepsakes that last for years. There is something special about opening a book that the creators signed and personalized, and sometimes even doodled. The books we have are timeless classics and there are lots of titles that belong in libraries everywhere. We encourage you to come and shop and also support the festival!" This year's festival will feature authors and illustrators include Jonathan Bean, Jeffrey Brown, Cozbi A. Cabrera, Diane deGroat, Michael Garland, Tommy Greenwald, Lisa McCourt, Lindsay Moore, Scott Nash, Billy Steers, Wendelin van Draanen, Eric Velasquez, Carole Boston Weatherford, Jeffery Boston Weatherford, Katie Yamasaki and Aaron Zenz. Literacy experts Georgia Heard, Dr. Vicki Anderson, Jack Hilgert, Brooke Tempel and Dr. Julia Schleck will also participate in the event. Saturday luncheon keynote speaker is National Book Award Winner Deborah Wiles.

The festival includes a children's day on October 6 featuring special presentations and activities for students and an adult conference on October 7 where authors, illustrators and several literacy experts speak on a variety of topics.
