Concordia Nebraska to host Rev. Dr. Peter H. Nafzger as part of Spring Speaker Series

Seward, NE (02/10/2026) — On Tuesday, February 24, Concordia University, Nebraska will host the Rev. Dr. Peter H. Nafzger as part of its spring speaker series. The lecture will be held in Thom Auditorium at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Nafzger is the associate professor of practical theology, coordinator of seminary international exchange programs and director of student life at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, where he has been a faculty member since 2016.

Nafzger has also served several Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) organizations in Minnesota prior to his arrival at the seminary. In addition, he served as a Bible study director from 2007 to 2019 and astheological advisor from 2019 to 2025 for the LCMS Youth Gathering.

He has authored several works including "The Preacher as Worldmaker: Reflections on the Nature and Purpose of Christian Preaching," a Lenten sermon series, "The Gospel in Seven Words" and "These are Written: Toward a Cruciform Theology of Scripture." He is currently working on a book for Concordia Seminary Press addressing the topics of preaching and communal formation.

Nafzger also contributes weekly to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis' podcast, "Lectionary Kickstart" and writes regular reflections for "Craft of Preaching."

He has a master of divinity and doctor of philosophy from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis as well as a bachelor of arts in behavioral science from Concordia University, Nebraska.

Nafzger also serves the seminary as the head coach for the Preachers basketball team. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, rock climbing, German board games, World Cup soccer and March Madness. His wife, Katie, teaches high school biology. They have four children, Olivia, Johann, August and Louisa. Olivia and Johann currently attend Concordia University, Nebraska.
