Concordia Nebraska to host spring composers recitals

Seward, NE (04/10/2026) — Much of developing the young musician is inspiring the confidence for them to create art without the constant supervision of a professional. Concordia University, Nebraska's music department does this by offering many student-led ensemble and performance opportunities. One example of this is the university's composers recital.

This recitals occurs once per semester. The composers recital is a non-auditioned recital but is typically reserved for students who are enrolled in composition lessons. Those students are required to participate. The composers recital usually features a wide range of styles and instrumentations. This year's event will include works for choir, strings, piano and brass.

Dr. John Kosch, adjunct professor of music, said that the event is a great way for the composing students to be able to showcase their work.

"The student recitals are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate students' creativity, skill, and individuality. Students and faculty are always incredibly supportive of the event, and I look forward to it every semester!"

The composers recital will be held in Borland Recital Hall in the Borland Center for Music and Theatre at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.

Compositions in the composers recital include:

Psalm 30 - Taylor Beal, Frisco, Texas

Starlight - Elizabeth Burger, Andover, Kansas

Awake, My Heart, With Gladness! - Timothy Mars, Cody, Wyoming

Waltz - Grace Marshall, Greeneville, Tennessee

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever - Richard Peperkorn, Fort Wayne, Indiana

Child of Dawn - Rebecca Tredray, Minneapolis, Minnesota
