Concordia Nebraska to host spring Honor Recital

Seward, NE (04/20/2026) — Held once each semester, Concordia Nebraska's Honor Recital is a chance for the university's Department of Music to celebrate outstanding students and the work that they put into the study of music. This year's spring honor recital will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska, on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Professor of Music Dr. Elizabeth Grimpo described it this way: "Private study on an instrument or voice is a crucial part of a musician's growth. Our private instructors are excellent, and our students learn and improve from lesson to lesson, semester to semester, and year to year. Oftentimes, our private instructors get the students to reach musical and artistic heights they weren't even aware they could reach. Any student (major or non-major) who is taking private lessons can audition for the Honor Recital each semester. It's quite competitive because we have a lot of great student musicians."

The honor recital is open to any student enrolled in private music lessons through the university. Students must sign up for an audition slot to be considered for the honor recital. This year, 11 students were selected to perform in the recital. There will be performances on voice, brass, woodwind and keyboard instruments.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Students participating in the honor recital include:

Taylor Beal, trumpet, Frisco, Texas

Emily Castens, trumpet, Fort Wayne, Indiana

David Eatherton, organ & bass trombone, St. Louis, Missouri

Lydia Fink, voice, Olathe, Kansas

Matthew Frerking, organ, Columbia, Missouri

Miriam Ganoung, trombone, Halsey, Nebraska

Michaela Gibbs, voice, Belleville, Illinois

Logann Gillespie, organ, Seward, Nebraska
