Concordia Nebraska welcomes 40 students at "A Life Called" church work event
Seward, NE (11/25/2024) — Concordia University, Nebraska recently hosted a special event titled "A Life Called" that allowed prospective students and their families to explore the university's church work programs.
Forty students from 12 different states gathered at the university October 13-14 to learn more about Concordia Nebraska's six church work programs: Director of Christian Education, Director of Parish Music, Lutheran Teaching Diploma, Classical Lutheran Teacher Certificate, Pre-deaconess and Pre-seminary. Participants had the opportunity to sit in on church work classes and learn alongside students while also engaging with church work faculty. Guests also had the opportunity to tour campus, stay in the residence halls with host students and learn about the university's financial aid opportunities.
"These students had the opportunity to learn about each of our six church work programs and how they can used their spiritual gifts to serve God in the church and world," explained Concordia Nebraska LCMS and Church Work Admissions Counselor Olivia Johnson. "Each high school student was paired with a current student who hosted them overnight in their dorm room."
The Concordia Youth Ministry club led an ice-breaker and team-building activities for event guests, and the group had the opportunity to join Concordia Nebraska students for the campus' Sunday evening Attic Bible study as well as student-led Evening Prayer and Praise worship.
"On Monday, students were able to attend A Cappella Choir rehearsal and some other classes pertaining to church work such as Lutheran Doctrine and Confessions, Children's Ministry, and Old and New Testament classes," explained Johnson. "When asked for feedback, students noted how they love how our Christian faith in integrated into everything we do, from classes, to student interactions and the multiple worship opportunities we have."
Almost 80 percent of event participants said they were very likely to attend Concordia Nebraska at some point in the future and would recommend the event to others. Johnson said students cited many positives about their time on campus including the worship services, welcoming people, nice campus, the opportunity to experience campus life and meeting new people.
"I really enjoyed going to Praise and also getting to know someone who already goes there," said one student. "I loved going to evening prayer and singing four-part harmony with everyone else during the liturgy and hymn," added another. "It made me so glad to be a Lutheran!"
