Concordia presents spring Jazzfest and handbell concerts

Seward, Neb. (04/19/2018) — Concordia University, Nebraska's Spring Jazzfest will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27 in the Weller chapel auditorium.

The jazz band will perform the up-tempo and twisted shuffle "Count Bubba's Revenge" by Gordon Goodwin and swing tunes such as "Symphony in Riffs" by Benny Carter, and "Big John's Special" by Horace Henderson, to name a few. The Vocal Jazz Choir will also be performing a few pieces, including Anders Edenroth's brand new chart, "Since You've Been Gone" and a new vocal jazz setting of "Singin' in the Rain."

Additionally, the Concordia Handbell Choir and Handbell Choir II will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 in the Music Center's Recital Hall on Concordia's campus.

Audience members are encouraged to stay after the concert to try ringing handbells. Concordia Handbell Choir's CD, "Faithful," will also be available for purchase at the concert.

"Both choirs will perform a selection of sacred and secular music," said Jessica Kite, director of handbell choirs. "Handbell Choir II will perform a bell processional to begin the concert and as well as music by Behnke, Dobrinski, Holst and Wissinger. Concordia Handbell Choir will keep audience members engaged with their percussive African piece, "Sherekea Usafari," and "Rhythmic Rip!" The entertaining piece, "Pick a Winner," will also feature some humorous dueling percussionists!"
