Concordia supports breast cancer awareness during Pink Week
Seward, NE (10/04/2019) — Students and faculty at Concordia University, Nebraska have the opportunity to demonstrate their support in the fight against breast cancer the entire month of October, specifically during Pink Week Oct. 7-11.
"Raising awareness about diseases like breast cancer allows our campus community to be well informed about potential health concerns that may impact themselves, their friends and their family," said Andreea Baker, director of health services. "With breast cancer, it's especially important to know your family history but it's also important to keep yourself healthy by exercising regularly, eating a well-balanced diet, sleep, monitoring stress levels etc."
Concordia will host its annual Pink Out volleyball game Friday, Oct. 11, as Concordia hosts Morningside College with junior varsity playing at 6 p.m. and varsity playing at 7:30 p.m., in the Walz Arena. Since the game is part of Concordia's Pink Week activities to raise awareness and donations for breast cancer, all attendees are invited to wear pink. There will also be giveaways, an information table and a photo booth set up during the game.
"Pink week is a time to reflect, learn and grow as individuals, but also as a campus community by participating in the various activities around campus and learning about how to stay healthy and learn about the warning signs of breast cancer" said Baker. "This information can save so many lives."
Every Friday in October, the community is encouraged to wear pink to show support for breast cancer awareness. A limited number of Pink Out shirts will be available for purchase Oct. 7-10 in the student life office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at the Pink Out game. Shirts are $5 (sales tax included). Pink Out shirts that were pre-ordered can be picked up in Student Life Office starting Oct. 7.
Concordia will host Pink Week activities for Concordia students Oct. 7-11. In addition to the volleyball game, activities include a women's pajama party to learn about women's health issues, a Wellness Wednesday event focused on nutrition and a "Find the Flamingos" scavenger hunt activity.
All Pink Week events are sponsored by Concordia's Health and Wellness Center, the Concordia volleyball team and Concordia's Community Building Committee.
