Concordia University, Nebraska announces virtual Christmas at Concordia event

Seward, NE (09/30/2020) — Concordia University, Nebraska's annual Christmas concert series will look different this year.

This year, instead of the traditional four concerts performed at St. John Lutheran Church, Christmas at Concordia will take the form of a pre-recorded concert package that will be available for purchase for viewers to enjoy in the comfort of their home.

"It is important for us, as a music department and as a university, to provide our students a platform to share their God-given talents with the public," said Dr. Kurt von Kampen, Concordia music department chair. "Although this year's event will be virtual, we are working to create a unique experience for not only our students, but for the whole Concordia family."

In addition to the concert link-featuring the Cantamus Women's Choir, Concordia Handbell Choir, Male Chorus, University A Cappella Choir, University Brass Ensemble and University Symphonic Band-the Christmas at Concordia Concert Package will include printed keepsake programs and special gifts to share the Christmas joy. Concert packages are $50, and will be available for the public to purchase Oct. 16 through Nov. 30 at christmasatconcordia.net. The purchased concert will be available for viewing starting Dec. 12.

"Since we aren't able to celebrate the Christmas spirit together in person, we believe this is the next best thing," said Jennifer Furr, senior director of alumni and university relations. "Our goal is that this package will be an extension of our joyous annual event and give our Concordia family an event to enjoy in their homes with their loved ones."

Scripture readings, original music from Concordia faculty and traditional hymns that invited congregation participation will be part of the celebration. Songs performed include "Where Shepherds Lately Knelt," "O Savior of Our Fallen Race," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Joy to the World," and more.
