Concordia University, Nebraska's Chamber Choir embarks on Spring 2021 Tour
Seward, NE (04/23/2021) — The University Chamber Choir from Concordia University, Nebraska, will perform six concerts in six cities during its spring tour May 8-11, with stops in Nebraska and Colorado.
"The University Chamber Choir exists to perform the finest sacred and secular chamber choral works spanning many centuries at a very high level of expertise, but our mission is not limited to the performance," said Dr. Kurt E. von Kampen, the choir's conductor. "Beyond the desire to make beautiful music, we strive to proclaim the message of salvation through Jesus Christ in song and honor Him using the talents He has given us."
This year's tour includes stops at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island; Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings; Our Father Lutheran Church in Centennial, Colorado; Lutheran High School in Parker, Colorado; Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The University Chamber Choir, formed in the fall of 1998, and has gained a reputation for excellence in the singing of chamber vocal music and vocal jazz. The 14-voice choir has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. including concert tours to New York, Maryland, Delaware, California, Arizona, Nevada, Florida and throughout the Midwest.
Chosen from the 72-voice University A Cappella Choir, the select choir sings a diverse repertoire of sacred and secular choral music from many historical periods. Significant Chamber Works performed by the choir include Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors," Randall Thompson's "The Peaceable Kingdom," and Gabriel Faure's "Requiem."
Von Kampen earned a bachelor's degree in music from Concordia University, Nebraska, a master's degree in choral conducting from Oakland University and a doctorate in choral music education from the University of Nebraska.
Admission to concerts is free. Free-will offerings will be taken at evening concerts to help defray tour expenses.
