Concordia University Wind Symphony to present fall performance

Seward, NE (10/02/2026) — On Sunday, October 11, the Concordia University Wind Symphony will present an afternoon performance at 4 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska. The performance includes a repertoire presented by the ensemble but is also a worship opportunity giving band members and the audience the opportunity to pray the Litany from the Lutheran Service Book.

This intentional programming is meant to highlight and allow audience reflection on the petitions of the Litany. The performance will take place without applause to reinforce this reflection.

"I hope that the audience leaves having prayed corporately to God with a knowledge of and appreciation for the Litany and a renewed sense of the importance of prayer in the life of a Christian," said Professor Robert Cody, director of the Wind Symphony and Concordia assistant professor of music.

The performance will open with Jack Stamp's Psalm 150, and features pieces like An American Elegy by Frank Ticheli, On An American Spiritual by David R. Holsinger, Concord by Clare Grundman and Percy Aldridge Grainger's Children's March: Over the Hills and Far Away.

"Instrumental music is a key aspect of worship," said Cody. "As God's creation, it has the ability to influence our emotions and our thoughts. This concert will provide new insight into the depth of the Litany and bring to the forefront some of the applications and emotions of the words of Litany to our daily lives."

The performance is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to support the work of the ensemble.
