Dr. John Hosler to speak at Concordia University, Nebraska

Presentation will explore Jerusalem's three medieval sieges

Seward, NE (02/22/2019) — Dr. John Hosler will present "Target Jerusalem: The Strategic Place of the Holy City in the Middle Ages," on Concordia University, Nebraska's campus at 7 p.m. March 14 in the Thom Leadership Education Center Auditorium. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Dr. John D. Hosler is an associate professor of military history at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He received his bachelor's and master's in English and History from Iowa State University and went on to earn his Ph.D. in European History from the University of Delaware. An expert on medieval warfare, he has written several books, his latest "The Siege of Acre, 1189-1191: Saladin, Richard the Lionheart, and the Battle that Decided the Third Crusade," being named a Best Book of 2018 by both the Times Literary Supplement and The Financial Times. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a Trustee of the United States Commission for Military History, and the current President of De Re Militari: the Society for Medieval Military History.

Hosler's presentation will explore three medieval sieges of Jerusalem-once considered the center of the world due to its prominent architecture and religious significance-and explain how the religious importance of the city influenced the military strategies of Muslim and Christian armies alike.
