High school students compete in History and Geography Quiz Bowl
Seward, NE (11/01/2019) — Nearly 200 students from 23 Nebraska high schools showcased their academic knowledge at the fifth annual History and Geography High School Quiz Bowl held at Concordia University, Nebraska Oct. 23.
"This event brings academic-minded students to our campus," said Dr. Joel Helmer, professor of geography and chair of department of history, geography, intercultural studies and modern language. "We want each student to have a positive experience on our campus and we encourage them to think about Concordia when they begin their college search."
The quiz bowl is sponsored by the History and Geography programs at Concordia. The professors joining Helmer in the event were Dr. Matt Phillips, associate professor of history, Dr. John Hink assistant professor of history and Dr. Jamie Hink, instructor of history. Pat Ohlmann, Sue Imig, Dr Louis Reith, Bonnie Kruse, Kathy Wilcox and Will Helmer volunteered as readers and judges as well.
The tournament was divided up into large, medium and small school divisions. Creighton Prep A finished first in the large school division, with Gretna A finished second. Norris A earned first place in the medium school division, while Norris B took second. Howells Dodge B was first in the small school division, as Fullerton B took second.
