Marxhausen Gallery presents new "Classicisms" exhibit

by Hope Nelson

Seward, NE (01/28/2025) — The Marxhausen Gallery of Art at Concordia University, Nebraska recently announced that it is presenting a new art exhibition, entitled "Classicisms," that is on display until February 14.

The gallery, which is located in Jesse Hall on Concordia Nebraska's campus, is open to the public during the university's fall and spring semesters on Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The "Classicisms" exhibit juxtaposes the university's collection of modern prints and glassware with plaster casts of the goddess Athena and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Through these varied pieces, "Classicisms" explores how classical tradition has adapted over the past century.

Two events are scheduled to coincide with the "Classicisms" exhibition at the gallery. The first, a reception and gallery talk, will guide attendees through the exhibition and introduce them to it. The second, a symposium panel discussion, will feature three speakers. Dr. Tom Jenkins of Trinity University, San Antonio, Dr. Anne Duncan of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Associate Professor of English at Concordia Nebraska Dr. Gabriel Haley will discuss the significance of multiple classicisms, as well as how their modern adaptations resonate in certain communities.
