Meet LCMS Director of Church Planting Rev. Dr. Quintin Cundiff '07

Seward, NE (09/23/2026) — Rev. Dr. Quintin Cundiff '07 serves The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as director of church planting in the Office of National Mission. He said he decided to study at Concordia University, Nebraska due to a personal recommendation.

"I came to Concordia because it was where the pastor who confirmed me went to college," he explained. "He took our youth group to Seward for two visits, and I enjoyed each one. Once I felt called to be a pastor, I knew it was exactly where I needed to go to pursue that calling."

Cundiff has a bachelor's degree in history from the university, a master's degree in divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. He is also currently in the Ph.D. Missiology program at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.

He said his faith in Jesus Christ grew during his time on campus, and his professors helped him to discover his purpose.

"I remember as I was entering into my senior year of college reflecting on just how significantly my faith had grown while in college. That is in large part to the wonderful teachers and classes I had. I also rejoice in the fellowship with like-minded friends," he said. "I was blessed with some faithful pastors who patiently answered my questions and gave me guidance when I needed it. I am deeply indebted to them all. [Concordia Nebraska] prepared me incredibly well for my seminary education, which has directly led into everything since then. Concordia provided the foundation that God has built everything else upon in my life."

In addition, he said his relationships with professors, time on campus and classes helped him grow and refine what he believes and how he speaks about it.

Following graduation, he went directly to seminary for additional study.

"From seminary, I went into the parish where I served various congregations for over a decade before being called into the mission field," he explained. "I served as a foreign missionary in Eurasia, working to plant a congregation and train pastors in numerous countries."

Upon returning to the United States, he has been serving with the Synod in the Office of National Mission in St. Louis, supporting mission efforts in the United States.

"I am working to develop curriculum to support both pastors and laity for the work of planting Lutheran churches in their communities. I also meet with teams and help to train and coach them as they go through the LCMS church planting process. I also interact with and support districts in their efforts to support and encourage church plants within their areas," he said. "It is amazing to hear about the incredible things that are happening in the church plants all over our country. God is at work growing his kingdom and we are all given a part to play in that."

Cundiff met his wife Lindsay (Thomas) at Concordia, but she finished her schooling elsewhere as she opted to become a nurse, and Concordia didn't have a program for it at the time. The Cundiffs have one biological son, Carter; an adopted son, Joshua, and they raised Quintin's younger half-brother, Michael.

When he's not working, you'll find Quintin reading, tabletop wargaming and enjoying medieval history.

"I am grateful to Concordia Nebraska for everything that I learned there, and I would like to encourage everyone, both current students and alumni that there is a place for them in God's mission," he said. "If that is in planting a church because they have relocated to a place where there is no Lutheran church, or if it is in finding ways to effectively reach out to the people in their community, it is all for the sake of Christ and his kingdom."
