President of Concordia University, Nebraska, appointed to National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Board of Directors

Seward, Neb. (12/21/2017) — Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, President of Concordia University, Nebraska, has been elected to the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) for a three-year term, beginning Feb. 2018.

President Friedrich joins 46 other college and university presidents from eight regions across the United States.

"It is a tremendous honor and privilege to serve as a member of the NAICU Board of Directors. NAICU's role in the shaping of higher education policy, especially for the independent sector, is more important today than ever before," said Friedrich. "I look forward to serving." Rev. Dr. Friedrich joined the Concordia staff in 1991 as director of the university's Centennial Campaign. After serving in several positions in development and administration, he was named president of the university in 2004.

Prior to his service at Concordia, Friedrich served as pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls, Wisconsin, from 1988-1990. He simultaneously served as a religion teacher and dean of chapel at Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, New York, and as an assistant pastor at Lutheran Church of St. John in Flushing, New York, from 1986-1988.

He earned a bachelor's degree at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1979, a master of divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1986 and Ph.D. from Capella University in 2006.

Friedrich is a member of the Council of Independent Nebraska College's Board, Concordia University System Vice President, Member of the Seward Rotary Club, Trustee of the Mill Neck Foundation and Lutheran Friends for the Deaf Board and past member-at-large of the Association of Lutheran Development Executives Board of Directors.

NAICU serves as a unified national voice of private nonprofit higher education. With more than 1,000 member institutions and associations nationwide, NAICU reflects the diversity of independent higher education in the United States. Since 1976, the association has represented private nonprofit colleges and universities on policy issues with the federal government, such as those affecting student aid, taxation, and government regulation.
