Student musicians display performance talents in Spring Honor Recital

Seward, NE (03/08/2019) — Concordia University, Nebraska, will hold its Spring Honor Recital Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m., in the Recital Hall of the Music Center on campus.

Students audition for an opportunity to perform in the biannual honor event showcasing top music students as selected by Concordia's music faculty. This year, 11 student musicians were selected to perform.

"The music department's biannual Honors Recital is one of the finest musical performances of each semester," said Kurt E. von Kampen, chair of Concordia's music department. "This concert showcases Concordia's 'best of the best.' This year's recital will include performances on piano, organ, winds and voice."

Students performing in the Honor Recital include (alphabetical by state with Nebraska first, city, last name):

Alexandra Ryks, sophomore, Bellevue, Neb., singing mezzo-soprano on "Verborgenheit" by Hugo Wolf

Allison Mackie, senior, Columbus, Neb., playing "Valet will ich dir geben" from J.S. Bach's BWV 736 on the organ

Avery Kesar, sophomore, Omaha, Neb., singing baritone on "Lydia" by Gabriel Fauré

Danae Welling, senior, Ashland, Neb., singing lyric soprano on "Ah! Je veux vivre" from Charles Gounod's Romeo et Juliet

Rebekah Guilford, freshman, Lincoln, Neb., playing "Allemande, Sarabande and Gigue" from George Young's Contempora Suite on the trumpet

Gabriel Jofre, junior, Sterling, Colo., playing 1st, 2nd and 3rd Variations from Jules Demersseman's La Carnaval de Venise, arr. by Frederick Hemke, on the saxophone

Jacob Roggow, senior, Cottage Hills, Ill., playing "V. Toccata" from Charles-Marie Widor's Organ Symphony No. 5 on the organ
