Concordia Nebraska's A Cappella Choir to Embark on Spring 2025 Tour

by Hope Nelson

Seward, NE (02/26/2025) — Concordia Nebraska's internationally acclaimed A Cappella Choir will travel to locations in Nebraska and Colorado on their spring 2025 tour from April 2-7.

The group tours locally, throughout the United States or abroad each year. The choir also regularly performs at school assemblies and participates in Sunday worship services. Their repertoire for this tour includes a hymn concerto by John Ferguson on "The Church's One Foundation" as well as Ola Gjeilo's setting of "Ubi Caritas" with piano improvisations and Johannes Brahms' most famous motet on "Warum ist das Licht uns gegeben," which is based on text from Lamentations, Job, James and Martin Luther.

In addition, the choir will perform the Jonathan Dove setting of "Ring Out, Wild Bells" for piano and choir. They also plan to premiere a commissioned setting of the hymn "Were You There," written by Benjamin Culli for choir, brass, timpani and organ.

The choir is under the direction of Dr. Kurt von Kampen, chair of Concordia's music department and professor of music. Von Kampen earned a bachelor's degree in music from Concordia University, Nebraska, a master's degree in choral conducting from Oakland University and a doctorate in choral music education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Admission to the concerts is free and free-will offerings will be collected at each concert to assist with tour costs.
