Dr. Daniel Thurber spoke at international conference in London
Seward, NE (09/14/2017) — Dr. Daniel Thurber, professor of English at Concordia University, Nebraska, presented "An Exploration of the Fictional and Poetic Worlds of Joyce Carol Oates" as part of the 15th International Conference on New Direction in the Humanities at Imperial College in London.
Nearly 3,000 people attended the conference with 45 different countries represented. The talks and presentations ranged on topics of literature and other aspects of language.
"It was a real scholarly joy for me to attend and to present my paper in this way," said Thurber. "Oates is the most prolific, living female author of our time, and her fiction poignantly paints major sociocultural issues in American society for the past several decades."
This is the third time Dr. Thurber has presented one of his papers at an international conference. The first was in 2009 in Beijing and the next in 2013 in Hungary.
Thurber has been a professor of English at Concordia University, Nebraska, for almost 30 years as well as a visiting professor in England, where he has led Concordia's study tour the last 23 years. He has also studied abroad in a variety of cities in Europe as well as London. In addition, he has led study tours to Asia, including Hong King, Taiwan and Shanghai, Holland, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria.
Thurber received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Concordia University, Nebraska, his master's degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his doctorate from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
