Dylan Teut to speak at International Literacy Conference in Austin

Seward, Neb. (03/08/2018) — Dylan Teut, professor of Education at Concordia University, Nebraska, will lead a discussion panel on "Putting Books to Work" as part of the 2018 International Literacy Conference's Children's Literature Day.

Teut's session will focus on early readers and include children's authors Chris Barton, Nancy Churnin and Adah Nuchi.

"I'll be working with three authors in a hands-on workshop so it's less of a discussion panel and more of an immediate tie-in with curriculum and what real-life teachers do in the classroom," said Teut. "It's an honor to be asked as applying books to teaching is something I do regularly in my classes. But this is the first time that I get to do it with the authors themselves."

This is the third time Teut has presided over an author panel for the International Literacy Association (ILA). In 2015, he was included in ILA's "30 Under 30" list highlighting 30 young literacy initiators from 13 different countries for his work beginning a literacy festival in Illinois and because of his advocacy of literacy through different channels.

As a Concordia graduate, Teut earned his bachelor's in early childhood education and his master's in literacy instruction and reading specialization. He taught in Belvidere, Illinois and also developed a separate literacy festival for the community there. Teut is currently working toward a Ph.D. in reading, literacy, instruction and assessment.

The ILA 2018 conference theme is "Be a Changemaker" or "someone who desires and strives for change in literacy education. Registration is open to anyone over the age of 18, and the event will continue for 3-days in Austin, Texas. Visit https://www4.cmrreg.com/ila2018/ to register.
