Student Life Office announces Feed the Dawgs Events

Seward, NE (09/07/2017) — Concordia University, Nebraska, has entered Food Bank of Lincoln's college competition where each participating college or university must collect as many canned goods as possible during the month of September.

On Oct. 1, all the goods will be transported to Lincoln where they will be weighed, and a winner declared.

In an effort to increase donations, Concordia's Student Life Office is hosting events for students, faculty, community, and alumni. A back to school dance fundraiser was held Sept. 1 where every canned good collected equivalent to one ticket in a drawing. On Sept. 8, there will be a Hunger Games scavenger hunt, where students are canvas the City of Seward to collect canned goods.

"We have events for all of Seward, including the Carnival of Cans on Sept. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Town Square," said Rehema Kavugha, director of student development. "It will be free to the public with a suggested donation of two cans per person. Nebraska Bounce has agreed to donate inflatables and cotton candy, while Seward Public Transit will be trying to stuff an entire bus with donated cans."

There will also be a contest during the Homecoming Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. "Whichever candidate gets the most monetary or canned goods donations will get a nice cream pie straight to the face," Kavugha said.

Faculty and staff are continuing to do their part with "Casual Can Friday." Each staff member will wear their best Concordia gear and put a can or two outside of their office door to show participation and Bulldog pride.

Donations can be made at any of the events or at the donation box located in Janzow Campus Center on the Concordia campus, throughout the month of September. Monetary donations are also appreciated with every two dollars adding up to a can.
