Todd Johnson receives Outstanding Teaching Award

Seward, NE (05/07/2022) — Todd Johnson, assistant professor of business administration at Concordia University, Nebraska received the 2022 Outstanding Teaching Award May 6 during the university's commencement honors dinner.

This honor is given to a full-time faculty member who has been nominated by students. A committee of students and faculty members who have previously received the award select the recipient.

"Every day, I get to wake up and be inspired by these students," said Johnson. "The joy and the light that flows through them inspires me every day to do what I do."

Johnson has taught accounting and business courses at Concordia Nebraska since 2016. He earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Kearney State College and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska Omaha. Prior to teaching at Concordia, Johnson worked in the private accounting sector for 15 years and taught at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska, for eight years. Johnson is highly competitive both in the classroom and on the field. As a college athlete, he was a two-time Academic All-American and a two-time All-American baseball player.

Students nominating Johnson remarked that he cares deeply about his students and making meaningful connections with them.

"[He] is a fun person to be around and always has good energy. He gives us the 'why' behind everything so we can understand the real-world relevance of what we are learning," the nomination states.

Another student comment focused on Johnson's positive energy and engaging personality.

"This professor always makes me look forward to class. He is very knowledgeable of the material, funny, loves what he does and demonstrates a lot of care for students and their goals. This professor holds us accountable, presents the material well and entertains the class to keep us engaged," the nomination states. "Countless people have changed their major or added a minor in accounting because he teaches so well. He shows the importance of accounting skills and makes us excited to learn."

"I cannot tell you how grateful I am for what God does in my life, and I hope that light shines through to other people," said Johnson.
