Concordia University, Nebraska's Department of Natural Sciences held its annual banquet on April 15, recognizing graduating seniors and select students from the department for their outstanding service and scholarship.

Three Concordia University, Nebraska seniors were put to the test on Wednesday, March 18 by the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) at the Walz Human Performance Complex.Two other seniors tested at an earlier time. LPD officers came to perform the physical fitness test for students interested in joining the department.

Held once each semester, Concordia Nebraska's Honor Recital is a chance for the university's Department of Music to celebrate outstanding students and the work that they put into the study of music. This year's spring honor recital will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska, on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Providing opportunities to experience different cultures as well as a variety of academic disciplines is important to forming a well-rounded student. Concordia University, Nebraska students were recently provided an opportunity to travel to London for a week-long study abroad experience.

On Saturday, March 28, Concordia University, Nebraska hosted the annual Northern Plains Collegiate Media Association (NPCMA) conference. This is the fourth time in nine years that Concordia Nebraska has hosted the event. This year, the conference featured a variety of panel discussions, a keynote speaker and an awards ceremony.

Concordia University, Nebraska Speech and Debate team broke onto the podium at the 2026 Kansas-Nebraska Intercollegiate Forensics Association (KNIFA) State Tournament. The team broke 15 entries across 8 events. Concordia took 19 students with 43 entries across all events, which is a new record for team participation. The event took place in Manhattan, Kansas, on February 14.

Concordia University, Nebraska senior Emma Kirby has made a variety of professional and personal connections in her time at the university. These connections have strengthened her professional and personal development.

Lauren Dawson '24 said that at one point in time, she was vehemently opposed to the idea of attending Concordia University, Nebraska. Now she has two degrees from the university and serves as an English teacher in a Muslim country and credits the university for strengthening her faith and preparing her for her current service.

More than 300 students attended Concordia University, Nebraska's recent church work student luncheon on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. The event included networking opportunities, a taco and nacho lunch buffet and remarks by Mick Onnen of Lutheran Hour Ministries of Nebraska.

Concordia University, Nebraska's esports team participated in five competitions in Fall 2025: Super Smash Bros, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League and Marvel Rivals. Each team competes in the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), with regular season league play spanning 8 weeks followed by playoffs.

Concordia University, Nebraska recently named 267 students to its honors list for the Fall 2025 semester. Students must earn a 3.90 GPA or higher while also completing a minimum of 12 credit hours to be eligible for this list.

Concordia University, Nebraska's Lighthouse Club raised over $12,500 in December 2025 with their Dressember fundraiser. Dressember is an anti-human trafficking fundraising and awareness campaign that is connected to the nonprofit International Justice Mission. Dressember is intended to encourage conversation by participants wearing dresses, ties and skirts for a day or the whole month of December.

Concordia Nebraska Associate Professor of Agricultural Science Dr. Kim Clark, Professor of Education Dr. Amanda Geidel, adjunct instructor Jason Hirschfeld '22 and four university education students, Jenna Muntz, Kailyn King, Lane Schoff and Jesse Herndon, recently enjoyed an experience of a lifetime. The group partnered with Nebraska Public Media in Lincoln to create curriculum to support an hour-long documentary called "Steak Science." "This is a film about the beef industry in Nebraska," explained Geidel. "Through Jason's collaborative efforts, Nebraska Public Media decided to partner with our students to develop curriculum that would go along with the documentary. The project began in September. Students developed their lessons, each covering a different segment of the film. They pitched their lessons at NPM to get feedback, tweaked them, and then each student taught their lesson to two different ag classes in Nebraska schools." The project culminated with a final meeting where Concordia students shared about presenting their lessons in the schools. Clark said the group discussed the possibility of partnering with NPM for future projects to develop additional documentaries for use by Nebraska teachers. "This project is a testament of the academic success at Concordia in the agricultural program and other academic areas," said Clark. The Steak Science video is available on Nebraska Public Media's webpage. The student-developed curriculum will soon be available for public use. "I was so proud of these students and thrilled to see how amazing this opportunity was for them," said Geidel. "The NPM team didn't have enough words to express their admiration for our students, professors and program at Concordia. It was awesome!" "The recognition these students have and will receive from this collaboration is something they should be proud of," added Clark. "These students have applied their knowledge through this project and enhanced skills such as planning, collaboration, communication, network and many more."

Elizabeth Salo is studying history and English at Concordia University, Nebraska. This summer, she will be volunteering as a College Conference Volunteer (CCV) at the Higher Things conference taking place at Concordia Nebraska.

Concordia University, Nebraska recently announced its upcoming Student Senate leadership team, which will take over the governance of the club starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. Officers for the upcoming school year include senior Quinlan Hendrickson of Lincoln, Nebraska as president, senior Ramona Ojeda of Lexington, Nebraska, as vice president, senior Emma VanTol of Unionville, Michigan, as treasurer and junior Kayla Korb of Burley, Idaho, as secretary.

Concordia University, Nebraska recently honored 27 graduating seniors who maintained high levels of academic excellence during their time at the university at the 2025 Commencement Honors Dinner on May 9. Each year, academic departments may confer two or more awards, depending on the department's size and the number of students in a particular program. Each department may determine the basis for students' attainment of these awards; however, they must consider the student's grade point average, service to the department and service to the university.

On May 10, Concordia University, Nebraska awarded undergraduate and graduate degrees to more than 430 graduates. The class of 2025 was honored during an undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony.

Over 60 students presented at the 14th annual Academic and Research Symposium at Concordia Nebraska on April 28, 2025. The event, which takes place in the Dunklau Center for Math, Science and Business, includes both poster and oral presentations throughout the late afternoon and evening. Associate Professor of Mathematics Dr. Brian Albright has been coordinating the event for the past four years. The symposium gives students the opportunity to present original research and significant projects they've worked on over the course of the semester in an interdisciplinary setting. This year, majors from history and psychology to biology and English were represented at the event. A total of 62 students gave 38 poster and 23 oral presentations on topics ranging from chiropractic care to football recruiting. This year, the event concluded with a lecture by keynote speaker Lyman Stone, a Lutheran demographer and senior fellow at the Institute for Family Studies. Stone's presentation was entitled "What Tomorrow May Bring: Evidence from the Lutheran Religious Life Survey Revealing How the LCMS is Changing."

Four Concordia Nebraska students - Gracie Flamig, Mackenzie Houser, Megan Eurich and Yaire Ojeda - were recently inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice society. Concordia Nebraska's chapter of this society is called Pi Epsilon Eta and requires students to hold a minimum 3.2 grade point average overall and in four criminal justice courses.

Concordia Nebraska usually has about 45 resident assistants (RAs) each year in the university's 11 residence halls. Each residence hall coordinator (RC) oversees, helps support and supervises nine to 13 of those RAs as their primary role. Their secondary role is helping serve the residents directly. The RC role includes many tasks including providing spiritual leadership for RAs and residents in their buildings, supporting their group of RAs throughout the year, working with Student Life Office staff to help lead RA training and the annual staff renewal retreat, assisting the Student Life Office Staff in emergency or crisis support on campus and responding to other incidents that occur on evenings and weekends. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the university sought to hire for all four of the university's residence hall coordinator positions. After reviewing applications and reference forms from a number of applicants (all of who are current RAs), the university has announced that students Micah Henschen, Joshua Jurchen, Eliyah Moldenhauer and Abigail Niemeier will serve as university residence hall coordinators for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Concordia University, Nebraska has awarded the university's President's Scholarship to 25 students for the 2024-2025 school year. The scholarship acknowledges freshmen with excellent academic performance, notable extracurricular involvement and high test score achievements. "While Concordia Nebraska is honored to have faculty and staff who are devoted to Christ-centered excellence, it is the students who play a central role in maintaining such a legacy," said Concordia University, Nebraska President Dr. Bernard Bull. "President's Scholarship recipients exemplify a commitment to excellence and, in doing so, promote a Christ-centered academic community that embraces a relentless pursuit of excellence, truth, beauty, goodness and using their gifts to be a future blessing to their families, churches, communities, and workplaces."

Concordia University, Nebraska recently named 223 students to its honors list for the Spring 2023 semester. Students who earn a 3.90 GPA or higher while also completing at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list.

On Thursday, April 13 and Saturday, April 15, Concordia's leadership teams participated in the national Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC) via Zoom. The two teams - made up of 12 students total - each competed in three challenges on Thursday and three challenges on Saturday placing first and second in the competition.
